4EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Effectiveness of Employee Engagement Strategies

Employee engagement refers to a workplace approach designed to ensure employees are motivated to contribute to organizational success, committed towards the organization’s objectives and goals, and at the same time they enhance their well-being (Sridevi, 2010). According to a recent survey conducted by Aon Hewitt, a HR expert, forty percent of workers are not engaged and worryingly, 20% of these employees are ‘actively disengaged (Sridevi, 2010). This has resulted to low output from those employees hence contributing less towards organizational goals. To ensure that employees are wholly focused towards organization goals as well as guarantee their well-being is achieved; organizations are implementing various strategies to achieve this objective. This essay will focus on the effectiveness of a range of strategies that an organization could use to improve engagement with its employees.

Communication is one of the techniques that a company can use to improve engagement with employees in a company (Gregory, 2014). This technique can be implemented by promoting a two-way communication system where managers can engage well with the employees. This technique will ensure that employees will feel respect and valuable as they will share power with the management through participative decision-making hence achieving the sense of belongingness on the part of employees’ thereby increasing engagement. This will increase job satisfaction hence reducing labor turnover (Gregory, 2014).

Another way an organization can improve employment engagement is through giving employees appropriate training (Gregory, 2014). This will not only help employees increase their knowledge and skills but also get them to know more about the job as well as increase their confidence and therefore they will be in a position to work under minimum supervision. Lastly, an organization can improve employee engagement through focusing on top-performance employees. According to a study conducted by Watson Wyatt on large USA firms, what top performing employees are asking for is what high performing firms doing and as a result there is low labour turnover in an organization.
