A policy is a set of principles that guide the decisions made about an issue that leads to the desired outcomes. Policies usually have implementation procedures that ensures that their implementations are effective and do not thwart the normal functions of the institutions in which they are being implemented negatively. Policies are both subjectively and objectively beneficial to the institutions under which they have been developed. In educational contexts, the value of teachers can be low and this can in turn affect the quality of education offered. Thus, this paper discusses the educational policy on the impacts of teachers.

Education Policy on the impact of teachers

The main policy in this case would be the implementation of high valued scores that has been proven to be beneficial in the later stages of life of students. However, there are some complications on the strategy because efforts in trying to do so have been elusive. There have been five problems arising from the efforts to measure this. The first one is the results are unreliable. The second problem is that the research results are contrary to the claims of policy maker. The stakeholders also base their calculations on inaccurate calculations. The fourth problem is that the claim that added value reflects in the rest of the student’s life is not correct. The fifth problem is that the methodology used is not related in any way to the claims of the researchers (Iris, Michael & Gail, 2009). Despite the major problem, the policy on value adding needs to be implemented to ensure that teachers offer quality education to the students that will enable them in the making of the right decisions in the later stages of life.

The implementation of this policy largely requires a political process and would involve a variety of players. The process must also involve some key players because educational policies affects an entire country. Legislators act as key players in convincing school board members and other educational sectors in institutionalizing the educational modifications. County governors also play an important role in the implementation of policies within schools. Political leaders also use education as a basis for their campaigns and thus, they may accept or reject some policies based on the promises they made while doing their campaigns (Apple, Kenway & Singh, 2009).

The key stakeholders in educational policies especially in the one of adding value to the quality of education offered to students are the legislature, teachers’ unions and school boards of directors. The legislature plays part in gauging their abilities to fund the proposed policies. Teachers’ unions get involved in these policies to determine whether the policies are too pressing on the teachers and ability of teachers to deliver according to the proposed policies. The school boards on their part must be involved because they gauge their abilities to align school systems in accordance to the new policies (Apple, Kenway & Singh, 2009).

The debate must also involve people who have already graduated from schools. Such people help in assessing the policy because they answer the question how the policy would have affected their performance in case such policy was implemented when they were still in school (Apple, Kenway & Singh, 2009). They would help in addressing how policies affect students. Obtaining such information from students in schools may be hard because they may fear that if they open up, the school systems would end up rejecting them.

In equity context, this policy helps students in the acquisition of quality education. This is because it is aimed at ensuring that teachers deliver quality services to their students regardless of the state of mind or ability of the student (Apple, Kenway & Singh, 2009). The policy makers may also view this policy in terms of equity to be beneficial to parents because it ensures that students get quality education and this prevents wastage of the money parents spend in paying school fees for their children. This policy also leads to equity when it comes to the access to resources because schools would do their best in the provision of resources to ensure that all students get quality benefits from the resources.

This policy promotes social mobility because it ensures that students gain quality teachings that helps them in making crucial life decisions at the later stages of life. Thus, students are encouraged to think outside the box. This kind of thinking would help the students in making relevant life decisions that would promote them from one stage to another while at the same time raising their social status (Ball, 2008). This policy therefore has no involvement in the reproduction of the existing norms.

This policy also promotes inclusion of all members of the society because there cannot be any quality in education if it excludes the interests of other students. By enhancing quality of education offered to students, this policy would ensure that the standards of teaching are fair and embraces the interests of all the students. The established gaps upon which this policy stands is the existing gaps in current teaching practices. Therefore, this policy promotes social inclusion by ensuring that the educational needs of all members of a society are catered for (Ball, 2008).

There have been some historical changes in the quality of education provided to students by teachers. In the past, there were discriminations in educational context based on sex, ethnicity or the social status. The people who were discriminated against had access to low quality of education. As time passed by, people realized the value for each other and this facilitated equity in education. Later on, educational policies were based on the political context but this did not meet all the needs of students and this led to the involvement of other stakeholders in education (DeMitchel, 2009). These changes have been based on the changing perceptions in the social context that has led to the formulation of policies that value all the members of a society bearing in mind inclusion for all.


Education policies should be the ones that foster value to students and should promote social inclusion. Before the implementation of a policy in the context of education, the value of the policy should be communicated to the important stakeholders in this field as this will make them vote for and promote the policy. In addition, the target population for a policy should find benefit in the policy and the policy should not be pressurize such people in terms of delivery.
