Reasons Why the Government Is Necessary

Introduction

The term government generally refers to any sort of leadership in an organization, community or political entity. In this text leadership of a political entity is the main focus. The various reasons why the government is necessary are thus discussed in details. It is important to note that among many reasons why people vote a government include developmental agenda, security issues, educational dimensions as well as international cooperation with other countries. Any sitting government is an engine with powerful gears for the execution of these staggering mandates. A team of elected government official ranging from senators, governors and members of parliament are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the smooth government functionality.

Law making

The United Kingdom government has the mandate to make the laws that govern the running of the country. This task is assigned to the legislative arm of the government. In a country like Kenya for example the parliament which is the legislative arm comes up with the laws via parliamentary debates and when in consensus they pass the law to the country’s president for his assent as shown by Pryce, (2017.Pg.46). The laws so made give the citizens a code of conduct.

Maintaining peace and order

It is the role of the government to ensure that the country is ran in an organized way as discussed by Jeon, (2017.Pg.66). No complain should be forthcoming from citizens and go unattended to. For this purpose the government through the police reach out to the members of the public in attempt to ensure that law and order in upheld for instance in political rallies and peaceful demonstrations. The United Kingdom government in partnership with creators of peace for example is the latest initiative that empowers women to be radical peace builders.

Promotion harmony through justice and equity

The government must ensure that its citizens are treated fairly and equally without any discriminations. Law breakers for instance should be charged fairly according to the rules of the country and the victims compensated fairly as shown by Kim, (2016.Pg.44). In order to achieve this role the government has in place the judiciary headed by a team of lawyers and judges appointed and vetted by the government.

Development

This is a very important role of the government that further cements why it is necessary. Good infrastructure is key to a country’s economic prosperity as suggested by Chan et al, (2017.Pg.65). The government through its various appointees ensures that the road networks, railway lines, airports, public markets and security light are at the best state possible as shown by Korkut et al, (2016.Pg.77). For the purposes of efficiency in the development of infrastructure the United Kingdom Government is delegating some of these responsibilities to the members of the public. It does this through two main programs: Public-Private partnerships and Private Finance Initiative. These two programs use public funds to form cooperation’s that then engage in infrastructural development.

Education

The government through its various mechanisms like the ministry of education has the mandate of ensuring that each citizen has or had access to basic education as illustrated by Nguyen et al, (2016.Pg.46). It does this by offering free basic education. Where this is not attainable the costs for such education is subsidized. The Higher Education Funding Council for England for instance offers loan supports for students pursuing higher learning.

Tax collection

The government through its various revenue collection authorities has the responsibility to collect tax from its citizens. The government must ensure that this process is fairly done as discussed by Pugalis & Tan, (2017.Pg.55). It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that the taxes collected are channeled to the right projects.

National security

In a world so unpredictable of terror attack, the United Kingdom government has the mandate of protecting its citizens from enemies foreign and domestic alike for example through the National Security Strategy and Strategic Defense and Security combined in a single policy the “white paper” as suggested by Gunawong & Gao, (2017,Pg.45). It thus has the task of ensuring that its borders are protected by the well trained military personnel. The government has to ensure that the military infrastructure of the country is impermeable to any potential threats.

Conclusion

Governance is necessary in any formal set up. It gives a sense of leadership in the set up that can be a community, an organization, a family or a political entity like a country. For a country the government provides this sense of leadership apart from which it execute other complex and overwhelming tasks that further proves why it is necessary.

The government of the country makes the laws that bind its citizens together. It further regulates their whereabouts for instance through the police to ensure that there exist law and order in the country. It is the responsibility of ensuring that its citizens are protected from external attacks by ensuring it has a strong military in place.

The government spearheads development projects and provides basic education to its citizens. It collects tax which it uses in the addressing of most pressing projects.
